Online reviews for plumbing companies are not always very speculator. When a plumber is called out to a home to perform work the need for that work is usually pretty high, but once the work has already been performed the need for that work is very low.

This translates into buyers remorse. It is unfortunate, but it happens to us just like everybody else. Occasionally we even get people that scope out what we do and intentionally attempt to extort the work out of us for free. I am currently dealing with one such person whose is an attorney who feels that they should have about $4,000 worth of work done for free. This person has left a great many negative reviews on the company with the intention of damaging my reputation because I am suing her for defamation.

That's correct, I am suing an attorney for defamation and her reaction is to continue that defamation. I firmly believe that she is totally incompetent and she really does fear the court action. It is a shame.

So Why is their Buyer's Remorse?

We have a client whose home is flooding. They are unprepared for this unwanted expense. We come to their home and diagnose a leak in a wall. We give them a price including electronic leak detection, opening the wall up, fixing the leak and let's just say the total comes to $450. We have spent about ½ hour getting to the home and about an hour finding and diagnosing the cause of the problem. The homeowner signs on the bottom line happy to have the problem behind them.
We perform the work. The job takes about an hour total to actually perform and then we clean up and get the agreement and payment all squared away which entails about another 30 minutes. The homeowner is extremely happy and the situation is contained.

The Homeowner Tells Her Son in Law What Happened

The son in law, knowing nothing other than a pipe was soldered in the wall goes ballistic and accuses of theft, fraud, abuse and over charging and states that we only on the job for 15 minutes. This happens at least once a month. We are accused of charging about $400 an hour. We have 2 hours of plumbers time dedicated to this job.

What is not understood is what goes into this job:

$40,000 Service Vehicle
$15,000 in Tools
Workers Compensation Insurance ($23 for $100 in plumbers pay!)
Office staff time
Building rental
Insurance and the list goes on and on

Unfortunately the cost of doing business here in California has been going in only one direction for quite some time. The politicians have been shifting the tax burden and regulatory burdens from the voters to business and as a result the state has been losing businesses right and left.

There had not been a single year that I have been in business, since 1992, that the company made more than 50% of the regulatory and tax load it pays.
I want to give you one example: Water Heaters. To put a water heater in a mobile home now requires a $196 permit. It takes a drive to Riverside and back to pull the permit at a cost of about $100 in labor alone. This is in addition to the $125 South Coast Air Quality Management sticker on the water heater and the $150 in additional emissions changes caused by the Government and then on top of that we are looking at about $42 in sales taxes.

The government is causing a hard cost increase in expenses to install a water heater of $613 approximately. Next time you vote, you should vote your wallet.
